Overview

Turmoil was developed at University of Central Florida under Kiwiclockwork Studios. It’s a roguelike action game set in a dieselpunk, dystopian world where robots have taken over the manufacturing sector of society. My role in Turmoil is a technical designer. I’m specifically developing UI/menu design & code along with creating particle effects and gameplay systems.

How long did it take?

  • Turmoil was in development from fall 2023 to spring 2024. It has been fully released on Steam.

How many people were involved?

  • A 13-person team composed of UCF students is developing Turmoil.

What tools were used?

  • Our team decided to use Unreal Engine because it contains the best tools and resources needed for our game.

Intention:

  • Turmoil was set out to be a fully playable and refined experience by the end of its development cycle and we have milestones throughout the months to have this game meet studio expectations.

What was learned that will help to be more effective moving forward?

  • Streamlining version control, department communication, and actively learning throughout the game development process has helped myself to figure out and resolve challenges that appear.
